The International Organization for Standardization , ISO, provides authoritative information
on world wide standardization. Accreditation of Quality System
Auditors, formerly administered in Canada by the National Quality
Institute, is now managed by RABQSA (which replaces
the former Registrar Accreditation Board) in the USA. There are also
other national accreditation bodies in other countries.
For the Canadian connection, start at the Standards Council of Canada, SCC, the National Quality Institute, NQI or the Canadian Standards Association, CSA.
ISO/TS 16949 uses the process approach of ISO 9001:2000 and will ultimately replace QS 9000 which is based on the now defunct ISO 9001:1994. Check out the American Society for Quality, ASQ, and search the Society of Automotive Engineers site, SAE, for useful information on practices and standards in the automotive sector. The Automotive Industry Action Group, AIAG, is responsible for the publication and interpretation of QS 9000 and related quality forms and requirements for the automotive sector. The International Automotive Sector Group, IASG, consisting of representatives from accreditation bodies, registrars, Chrysler/Ford/General Motors and Tier 1 Automotive Suppliers, provides official interpretations of the QS 9000 standard.

ASQ Design and Construction Division is of particular interest to engineers and architects. The division has prepared the document, "Interpretive Guidelines for the Application of ANSI/ASQC Q9001-1994 or Q9002-1994 for Owners's & Designer's Quality Management Systems", on quality for engineering projects, available from the ASQ Bookstore.
INCOSE, the International Council on Systems Engineering, is an excellent resource both for Systems Engineers and for other professionals with an interest in this powerful discipline.
The Canadian Association of Management Consultants/Association Canadienne des Conseilleurs en Management, CAMC/ACCM, sets professional standards and administers certification programs for CMCs.
